The Finnish Border Guard introduced Friday that border restrictions will take impact at midnight native time to put limitations at crossings it shares with Russia to discourage asylum seekers.

The transfer is in response to modifications in Russia’s border coverage, the Finnish Border Guard’s head of worldwide affairs, Matti Pitkaniitty, informed reporters.

“Our aim is to use barrier devices to prevent entry,” stated Pitkaniitty.

Finnish officers accused Moscow of purposefully loosening migration controls.

President Sauli Niinisto steered Wednesday that it is without doubt one of the methods Russia is making an attempt to retaliate to Helsinki’s choice to hitch NATO.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo stated Thursday that authorities determined to react strongly to what it sees as “organized activity” by Moscow.

“We have acted decisively and promptly in order not to have the situation deteriorate,” he stated at a news convention.

But Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov rejected the “very strange” accusations and stated Moscow would “get to the bottom” of it, the Russian state news company, TASS reported.

Finland shares an 830-mile (1,335-kilometer) border with Russia with eight crossings.

It might be putting restrictions on the Niirala, Vaalimaa, Imatra and Nuijamaa crossings — the busiest journey factors between the 2 nations.

The 4 crossings could be closed attributable to a risk to the nation’s nationwide safety, in response to Finnish authorities.
