Russia on Friday added The Moscow Times, a web-based publication masking Russia, to its checklist of international brokers, a label authorities generally use to stifle critics.
Russia’s justice ministry additionally added an artist and journalists to the checklist that it historically updates on Fridays.
“The online publication The Moscow Times disseminated inaccurate information about the decisions taken and policies pursued by the authorities,” the ministry stated.
The Moscow Times has a web site in English and in Russian. Part of its employees left Russia after the start of the offensive in Ukraine.
Russia accused the publication of getting “carried out actions aimed at forming a negative public image” and of that includes materials written by different international brokers.
The label, which is harking back to the time period “enemies of the people” of the Soviet period, requires people or teams to reveal sources of funding.
