Russia has detained the deputy head of the military’s common workers Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, on suspicion of large-scale bribe-taking, Russian media reported on Thursday, the most recent in a collection of arrests of high army officers.

The Kommersant newspaper reported that Shamarin had been detained in reference to alleged fraud, and that his house had been searched.

It is the fourth arrest of a high-ranking defence determine since April, when Deputy Defence Minister Timur Ivanov was positioned in pre-trial detention for suspected bribe-taking.

Since then, Lieutenant General Yuri Kuznetsov, head of personnel on the defence ministry, and Major General Ivan Popov, former commander of Russia’s 58th military, have aso been arrested.

The collection of arrests comes amid main adjustments in Russia’s defence institution, after President Vladimir Putin this month eliminated long-serving Sergei Shoigu as minister, changing him with former deputy prime minister Andrei Belousov.
