UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Chilean President Gabriel Boric on Thursday visited Antarctica to get a first-hand impression of the hazards of international warming.

“The close cooperation between Chile and the UN is helping to strengthen key areas of our work on the climate crisis, sustainable development, peace and security,” the Secretary General wrote on X, previously Twitter.

Boric posted a photograph of the 2 of them on X saying: “Not only is Antarctica home to 90% of the planet’s ice and 77% of available fresh water: its seas are key in regulating the global climate.”

Chile’s presidential workplace introduced on X that Chile seeks to place itself as a pacesetter in scientific analysis in Antarctica and drive ahead developments within the struggle in opposition to local weather change.

Guterres needed to go to two glaciers and Copaitic Island, amongst different locations, the United Nations had introduced in New York.

He will report on his experiences within the Antarctic on the COP28 World Climate Conference in Dubai subsequent week and “call for action appropriate to the crisis we face.”
