German-Iranian author Navid Kermani has been awarded the 2024 Thomas Mann Prize, collectively awarded by the northern German metropolis of Lübeck and the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts.

The jury introduced the choice on Friday in Lübeck, the hometown of Nobel Prize-winning German author Thomas Mann and the setting of his traditional 1901 novel “Buddenbrooks.”

In an announcement, the jury praised Kermani’s narrative and essayistic work for his or her analytical brilliance and compassionate sympathy that’s unparalleled in modern literature.

His quite a few tales and novels are characterised by their linguistic brilliance, profound literary reflections and an clever play together with his personal biography, in accordance with the jury.

Kermani’s newest novel, “Das Alphabet bis S,” (The Alphabet via S) obtained specific reward.
