The Rainbow Bridge, positioned close to Niagara Falls between the United States and Canada, was closed after a car blast on Wednesday.
Two individuals within the car are lifeless and one Border Patrol official has been injured, Fox News stated.
The reason behind the incident was not instantly clear however New York Gov. Kathy Hochul stated state police and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force have been monitoring all factors of entry into the state.
“I am traveling to Buffalo to meet with law enforcement and emergency responders and will update New Yorkers when more information becomes available,” she posted on social media.
The FBI Buffalo discipline workplace stated in an announcement it was “investigating a vehicle explosion” on the bridge and added that the scenario was “very fluid, that’s all we can say at this time.”
Ron Rienas, of the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority, instructed ABC News all 4 bridges connecting the 2 international locations over the Niagara River have been closed.
Pictures posted to social media, which Agence France-Presse (AFP) has not verified, purported to indicate thick plumes of black smoke rising from a big conflagration on the crossing.
